Pierre teen could face life if convicted in shooting

Braiden McCahren sat in the Hughes County Jail Thursday and watched from a closed circuit television as Judge John Brown elected to detain McCahren in a county juvenile detention center without bond until his January 3 preliminary hearing.

More than 20 people watched from the courtroom Thursday, some of them family.

By the time the judge had decided to hand down his first decision, many were in tears. McCahren is being charged for the murder of Dalton Williams...a 16-year-old classmate at T.F. Riggs High School.

According to a police report, McCahren and Williams were arguing over a past paintball incident when things got out of control and McCahren shot Williams in the chest with a shotgun.

If convicted of a class a felony murder charge, McCahren could face up to live in prison without the possibility of parole.
