Multiple law enforcement agencies are at the scene of a standoff in Marion, involving the suspect of a high speed chase in three South Dakota counties Sunday.
Authorities said the suspect is about 35 years old. Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier said there is one teenage girl being held hostage by the suspect, and they are trying to negotiate with the suspect.
Nogelmeier said "negotiations are not going their way." He said they are trying to calm the suspect down.
Nogelmeier said the suspect showed up early Xmas Eve morning at his grandmother's house. The grandmother has since been released. The teenaged hostage is the suspect's cousin. It was the suspect's own mother who alerted police at approximately 9 am Monday morning about the situation
KSFY News has a crew in Marion, but has been pushed back multiple blocks from the scene. Roper said he could see the Turner County Sheriff's Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and SWAT have responded to the situation.
