Longtime Hughes County finance officer resigns

Posted: Updated:

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Hughes County's longtime finance officer is resigning.

Shellie Baumgart will leave in March. She's been with the county for 33 years, serving the past 24 as an elected officer. After serving eight years as the county auditor, she became finance officer 15 years ago.

Baumgart is leaving to join RiverCities Transit, where her husband, Ron, is the executive director. Shellie Baumgart says she will be working with the transit deputy director on issues such as human resources and e-learning programs.

Baumgart says it's difficult to leave but that it's time to do something new. Her last day is March 29.

The Hughes County Commission will select someone to fill the rest of her four-year term, which ends Dec. 31, 2014.
