HAYTI, S.D. (AP) - Hamlin County Sheriff Dan Mack is retiring after 33 years as sheriff of the eastern South Dakota county.
Also retiring is Mack's wife, Louise, who has been office manager for the sheriff's department for 32 years.
The couple will both work part-time as bus drivers. But they will try their best to enjoy their free time after working so long for the county.
The county's chief deputy is lining up interviews to keep the sheriff's office fully staffed.
Voters first elected Mack sheriff when he was 33 years old. He only faced a challenger in an election three times since then.
