With presents unwrapped and Santa back in the North Pole, Christmas is over for another year.
New toys and gifts are being opened, and an issue becomes what to do with all that extra boxes and packaging.
Local Neighborhood Watch groups tell us not to place that packaging outside.
According to Neighborhood Watch burglars look through our trash and can determine what new items we purchased.
From there they can decide if they want to make our new presents, theirs.
"I burn my boxes," Amanda Gill, a holiday shopper said. "I don't give the burglars a chance, I guess."
Gill also keeps her identity safe by keeping all of her receipts.
The Sioux Falls Police also warned the area to be careful when going on vacation.
"You always want to let a trusted neighbor know," Lieutenant Blaine Larsen told KSFY News.
Lieutenant Larsen also warned against advertising your vacation on social media.
