A 24-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a toddler who died in Sioux Falls on Christmas Day.

Manegabe Chebea Ally was arrested Thursday at his home at 401 South Sycamore. He was arrested for the following charges: 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, and 1st Degree Manslaughter.

According to Sioux Falls police, Circuit Court Judge Larry Long issued a bench warrant in the amount of $1 million for Ally's arrest. Ally was arrested without incident and is in police custody.

Ally is expected to appear in court at 1:30 pm Friday, December 28.

On Monday, police and fire crews were called to 401 South Sycamore Avenue for a medical emergency. When they arrived they found a toddler not breathing and without a pulse.

Emergency crews were able to regain the toddler's heartbeat through rescue efforts and the child was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital. The 18-month-old died later Christmas Day.

Sioux Falls Police say an autopsy confirms blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Police said another child and an adult were present at the time of the incident. The adult was the person who alerted authorities to the medical emergency.
