Sideras named president of South Dakota Fire Chiefs

Posted: Updated:

The South Dakota Fire Chiefs Association named Sioux Falls Fire Chief Jim Sideras its new president during it's yearly convention.

The Association represents the interests of over 350 fire chiefs in the state of South Dakota. Sideras, who was elected by a unanimous vote, will also represent South Dakota at the national level.

"It is an honor to represent fire chiefs from across the state with their challenges," Sideras said. "South Dakota has an incredibly diversified fire service with some departments operating with a handful of dedicated volunteers, while larger cities like Sioux Falls have more resources and personnel. We can all work together to better protect the citizens of South Dakota."

The South Dakota Fire Chiefs Association advocates for fire safety improvements and education in the private and business sectors that protect the citizens in our communities as well as firefighters.

Sideras has been with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue for 29 years. He has a master's degree in nursing, a fellowship from Harvard University, and has completed the National Fire Academy's four-year Executive Fire Officer Program. He has written over 20 articles on the fire service and is nationally credentialed as both a Chief Fire Officer and Chief Emergency Medical Services Officer.
