Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has been admitted to a New York hospital after the discovery of a blood clot stemming from the concussion she sustained earlier this month.
Her doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up exam Sunday, and she was immediately put on blood thinners. The 65-year-old Clinton fell and suffered a concussion while at home alone in mid-December as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated.
The concussion was diagnosed December 13 and Clinton was forced to cancel a trip to North Africa and the Middle East that had been planned for the next week. Doctors are keeping a close eye on her for the next 48 hours. They have not revealed the location of the clot, but doctors not involved in the case believe that it could be a deep venous thrombosis, which is a clot in the large veins in the legs.
