On New Year's Day, the Water Division of Sioux Falls Public Works had a 20-inch drinking water main break in a remote area on the north side of the Big Sioux River near Falls Park.
The Water Division's emergency team immediately responded, located the break, and stopped the release of drinking water to the Big Sioux River. The estimated water loss is approximately two million gallons.
A water distribution system will experience breaks. The pipes are rigid and the ground movement related to frost and other factors places stress on the system.
Public Works is available to answer any questions.
