Interactive website shows crimes in Sioux Falls neighborhoods
The people of Sioux Falls now have more access to crime data in their neighborhoods—in real time.
The crime data through www.CrimeReports.com, or through the CrimeReports free iPhone app, allows citizens to monitor crime in their neighborhood.
"Information is power," Chief Doug Barthel said. "And we hope that giving the community this information will help them understand crime trends and lower crime in their neighborhoods."
The interactive map allows users to zoom and locate crime in neighborhoods. It provides the date, time, location, type of crime and the responding agency of the crime.
Users can also sign up for free customizable email updates to monitor crime in their neighborhood.
"Providing reliable, timely information to our citizens is one of our top priorities, because an informed public is a safer public," Barthel said in a news release. "Partnering with PublicEngines gives us the ability to keep the public informed on a regular basis as to what is going on in the community."
