Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week: Donnie Decker

Posted: Updated:

Our first Touchstone Energy "Scholar of the Week" for 2013 is Donnie Decker from James Valley Christian School in Huron.

He is a good student and has an eye on one day helping other students find their own success.

Anytime someone carries a 4.0 grade point average, it is an impressive feat and something that should be rewarded.
Even more so if you are taking some of the classes that Donnie Decker is taking at James Valley Christian School in Huron. "Chemistry, calculus, and then I take Spanish 2 online...it's harder not having a teacher in the room."

Decker is also very active in sports: he tackles four of them: cross country, basketball, track and soccer.
James Valley Superintendent Jim Friesen tells us, Donnie Decker is not just a smart guy but he is also a good person. "Donnie is well liked by all the students and teachers. He is a hard worker. He has a 4.0 GPA so he is at the top of his class and he is very diligent. He gets his work done all the time. Just a very cooperative young man. He really is very helpful."

Donnie says he enjoys learning and likes to learn in new, creative ways....ways that are outside the box. He says he has benefited from good teachers at James Valley Christian...and as he considers his own future...he may want to become one of those good teachers. "I might look at Black Hills State in Spearfish. Possibly in Secondary Education. Something along those lines."

For being named "Scholar of the Week", Donnie will receive a $100 scholarship from Dakota Energy Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
