NSU marching band to perform at presidential inauguration

Posted: Updated:

112 members of the Northern State Marching Band will be participating in the 2013 Presidential Inauguration.

Dr. Boyd Perkins has been the band's director for ten years, and was also in charge of the band who marched in the 2005 inauguration.

"This is a huge honor for NSU," Boyd said. "This is something they will never ever forget.

Many of the Marching Wolves have never been to the capitol and will do their best to soak it all in.

"It is just so exciting," Junior Michelle Mennis said, "We were blown away when we found out. We never thought we would be doing this."

The band was picked from a pool of more than 28,000 applicants, and in addition to the military bands was one of six marching bands chosen to perform.

There are however issues for traveling across country, like funding.

The band has already decided a fundraiser is necessary.

The marching wolves will be performing an indoor show on January 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Theater.

Tickets will be $20 per person and children 12 and under are $5.

Donations are also being accepted through the NSU foundation.
