A new study from the Centers for Disease Control shows that 1 out of 24 adults are driving while asleep.
An even scarier realization is the people behind the wheel may not even be realizing it.
The report found that drivers may be inclined to something called "micro-sleep"; where they fall a sleep for only a couple seconds. We spoke with Captain Kevin Joffer on of the South Dakota Highway Patrol on the importance of pulling over to rest. "It's a judgment call, but just pulling over can save you from a serious crash either that your just the only one involved in. You could get killed in that crash but you could also hurt someone else in a crash like that so just taking some time, pulling over, and getting around and walking around your car or taking a break can be helpful."
The report also found that 4.2% of 147-thousand people surveyed fell asleep while driving.
