Still a lot of presents to unwrap at The Great Plains Zoo, it was Christmas with the animals.
The cold weather didn't stop people at the zoo from seeing reindeer nibble on garlands of Cheerios and Christmas trees. The animals even unwrapped presents filled with fruits and vegetables.
Saturdays event was part of the zoo's animal enrichment efforts focusing on encouraging the animal's natural behavior including scent marking and hunting.
"Well like I said we've come for a lot of years and I think its just fun to watch. We missed the tigers and they were a lot of fun. We didn't get here in time for those this year," Bill Roberts said.
Zoo guests might have also seen Asian cats, Eastern Black Rhinos, primates and the animals in the Hy-Vee face-to-face farm.
