Stolen pickup could be connected to escaped prisoner

Posted: Updated:

The Beadle County Sheriff said the man who escaped from the county jail could have already stolen a vehicle.

A stolen vehicle was reported at a farmhouse east of Huron Tuesday at 8:00 am. It is a '91 Ford 250, turquoise and white in color and with the license plate 4CD178.

Beadle County Sheriff Doug Solem said it could possibly Charles Leroy Beeney , who escaped from the county jail overnight.

Solem said the people living in the farmhouse saw the alert that Beeney had escaped. Solem said at 12:30 am the people checked their vehicles, which were there, and went to bed. He said when the family went to leave at 8am Tuesday morning the pickup was gone.

Solem said he cannot say for sure whether this missing vehicle is connected to the escaped prisoner. They are not sure when the pickup was stolen, but if Beeney stole the vehicle early this morning he has a good run at where ever he is going, Solem said.

U.S. Marshals will be in Huron to assist with the investigation.

Solem said people should still lock their doors because Beeney has made threats and is considered dangerous. Schools in Huron have been place on lockdown.

Anyone who sees this truck matching the description and the license plate should call police immediately. Stick with KSFY on air and online for the latest.
