Automania moving from Sioux Falls to Brandon

Posted: Updated:

The largest free car show in the Midwest is moving from Sioux Falls.

For the past several years Automania has taken place in downtown Sioux Falls, but this year..the event will head east to Brandon.

Automania brings in between 50 and 70 thousand people...which means a lot of money for both the city and the nearby businesses.

We spoke with several restaurants in downtown Sioux Falls that say Automania is easily their busiest night of the year.

While they are sad to see the event move from downtown, Automania chairman Bill Nelson says the move is simply about space and logistics.

Nelson says the event has so many vendors and visitors, it became very challenging to find enough space and parking in the downtown area

Working with the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, Automania has secured nearly one mile of Holly Street between First National Bank and Casey's for the event.

The Brandon School District has also agreed to allow free parking at all of their schools right off Holly Street.

Kim Cerwick with the Brandon Chamber of Commerce says this event will be a big deal for the city. "The impact this is going to have on our community is tremendous, no only will we benefit from the tax dollars, but the exposure that our businesses will get is absolutely amazing and a great thing for our community."

Holly Street will be shut down starting at 9:00 am, giving vendors plenty of time to set up. Nelson says finding enough time to set up in downtown was always difficult. In Brandon the event will be able to open a few hours earlier as vendors have plenty of time to prepare.

Automania will be in Brandon this June. Downtown Sioux Falls Incorporated says they're excited to see how the event will expand in Brandon.
