22-year-old Sioux Falls man arrested for weekend homicide
A Sioux Falls man has been arrested in connection with a suspicious death in the east side of Sioux Falls over the weekend.
At Wednesday's police briefing, Sioux Falls Police said Robert Bass, 22, of Sioux Falls was arrested for killing 50-year-old Crescencio Conde-Vargas with a baseball bat.
Police also say alcohol was involved.
They said when they entered the home they could tell a pretty good struggle had happened, leading them to rule the death as a homicide.
Bass was arrested for second-degree murder and two alternative counts of first-degree manslaughter.
Monday afternoon, police found Conde-Vargas dead in his home at 1025 East 8th Street. Police said the incident happened early Saturday morning. Conde-Vargas had been living in the Sioux Falls area since 2005.
Police said this was the first homicide in Sioux Falls of 2013, and there were a total of only three homicides in Sioux Falls last year.
Bass is expected to appear in court later today. Bond was set at $1 million cash.
