Iowa's 2014 legislative session gets underway next week, and lawmakers say they expect debate over tax reduction and education funding proposals to dominate the discussion this time around.
Governor Terry Branstad has made it clear that reducing commercial property taxes will be a key part of his budget proposal.
Also on the table will be a Republican-backed proposal for lowering income taxes. House Speaker Kraig Paulsen says some portion of the state budget surplus should be returned to taxpayers.
