Sioux Falls police have released the name of the man who died in a car crash late Thursday night.
Chaske Manzelle Warner, 26, of Sioux Falls, was driving a 2005 Mercury Montego that crashed into a tree at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Holly Avenue in Sioux Falls.
A witness said the vehicle was traveling at an estimated 60 mph. The speed limit in the neighborhood is 25 mph.
Five people were in the vehicle and all were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital, where the driver of the vehicle died. Clemens said an investigation showed no one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and speed and alcohol were a factor.
Clemens said the first officer who arrived to the scene said it looked like some people were trying run. One of the passengers actually ran from the scene, but other officers were able apprehend him 1 ½ blocks away from the accident. Clemens said the man ran because he was on parole. That man was taken to the hospital but ended up at the state penitentiary.
After the crash, two other occupants sustained life threatening injuries. One person has improved but is still in serious condition and there has been no change on the other. The investigation into the crash is still on-going.
The front seat passenger was a 25-year-old male from Pierre. In the backseat were a 20-year-old male, 21-year-old female and a 23-year-old male, all from Sioux Falls. The 23-year-old male was the one who tried running from the scene.
