Drugs seized from home, former SD legislator commits suicide
A former South Dakota state representative committed suicide one day after detectives seized computers and marijuana from his Sioux Falls home as part of a child pornography investigation.
Gil Koetzle, a democrat, spent many years in the State House.
Sheriff Mike Milstead told KSFY authorities served a search warrant at Koetzle's home, Wednesday morning.
The Internet Crimes Against Children task force traced explicit images involving young girls to Koetzle's e-mail account which prompted detectives to serve a search warrant.
Minnehaha County detectives seized several items including 13 grams of marijuana with miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.
The day after the search was performed, dispatchers were called to the scene of a cardiac arrest at Koetzle's home. Police confirmed the incident was a suicide.
Milstead told KSFY there is a follow-up investigation being done on the Koetzle case, but that authorities don't believe there are any victims. He went on to say there is no indication of any physical contact with kids.
