INDIANAPOLIS - Augustana moved up one spot in the USA Today Sports Coaches' Poll to No. 12 released by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings are 11-2 on the season and are coming off two big victories on the road this past weekend. Augustana collected 426 votes, just six behind the 11th-place team.
The top five teams remain unchanged, but the third and fourth positions continue to rotate. Ashland (Ohio) is still the unanimous No. 1 team, receiving all 31 first-place votes, and is followed by Bentley University (Mass.).
Clayton State (Ga.) moved back into the third spot after spending one week in fourth and University of South Carolina-Aiken returns to the fourth slot. University of Indianapolis (Ind.) holds onto their No. 5 ranking and is the highest-ranked team with a loss.
Joining Augustana from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Minnesota State moves up four spots to 20th and Wayne State did not move from their 22nd -place ranking.
In the Central Region, four teams from the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association join the Vikings. Washburn (Kan.) is the highest ranked at ninth, and Central Missouri jumped the Vikings by moving up four spots to 11th. Fort Hays State (Kan.) and Pittsburg State (Kan.) round out the Central Region at 21st and 24th, respectively.
