A new bike tour in Sioux Falls is paving the way for the next generation of cycling, while replacing the Tour de Kota.
Wednesday, the City of Sioux Falls and Argus Leader Media announced Tour Sioux Falls to be held June 29-30.
On June 29, participants in Tour Sioux Falls can enjoy the fully opened Sioux Falls bike trail. There will be activities for families and kids at several of the parks along the trail. And, Saturday's activities culminate in a party on the River Greenway with music, food and activities.
On June 30, Sioux Falls opens city streets to bicycles for the first time ever. Working closely with the City and the Sioux Falls Police Department, a portion of downtown will be closed to motor traffic on the morning of June 30. The 2.6-mile cyclovia route will begin at Falls Park and travel down Phillips Avenue to 8th Street, west to Main, south on Main to 13th Street, over to Phillips Avenue and back to Falls Park.
Nearly three out of four Tour de Kota riders call South Dakota home, and the majority of those are from the Sioux Falls area. Looking ahead to 2013, the City of Sioux Falls and Argus Leader Media say they are excited for the next generation of the Tour de Kota.
