The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating mismanaged evidence in the Flandreau Police Department.
Flandreau Police Department released a statement Wednesday about the investigation. The Flandreau Police Department was also the entity discovering that a breach in its evidence management occurred when a routine inventory of old evidence revealed some of the secured evidence was missing.
The investigation was turned over to South Dakota DCI. The Flandreau Police Department could not comment on the investigation.
According to a news release, the Flandreau Police Department is putting into place additional policies and procedures to safeguard all seized evidence.
