Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Joshua Hinkemeyer from Sisseton High School.
He's a senior with a 3.51 grade point average and he says he has achieved balance in his class work this year.
We tell you a lot of stories about really motivated seniors who are tackling tough classes while preparing for college. And Joshua Hinkemeyer is no exception. But while tackling some of the tough stuff, Joshua is also exploring some classes that allow him to enjoy himself a little more than normal. "I'm taking like pre-calculus honors and English honors..stuff that is going to prepare me for college. That kind of stuff. I'm also...with all those hard classes I'm also taking some easier classes to maybe more explore some things like I want to do in the future like web page design and art for example."
And it is that focus on art that Joshua is spending a little extra time on this year....exploring and focusing on the performing arts. Sharon Prendergast is Joshua's theater teacher and says....he is a natural performer. "Josh is an entertainer in the classroom. he likes to keep us laughing. he's always willing to volunteer...when you need a reader or something and he loves to try his accents out. we've been reading plays in English...so he's pretty fun."
And it sounds like that fun may continue. Listen to what Joshua told us when we asked him about his future plans. "After high school I definitely plan on doing some theater....that's one of my big dreams is doing theater. Definitely going to be doing that. But along with that I don't know what else I am going to do ...probably minor in something too."
And for being named our Scholar of the Week, Joshua will receive a $100 scholarship from Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative....which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
