Police in Sisseton have arrested eight individuals on intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine.
Joseph Huizinga, Jenifer Lang, Anthony Sheffield, Peter Stewart, Thomas Thode, Gayle Wallin, Alexander Wallin, and Brandon Wendel all face class 4 felonies.
Sheffield resides in St. Paul, Minnesota, while the other seven are residents of Sisseton.
The eight alleged criminals could also face more additional charges.
The house the police apprehended them from is less than a couple hundred yards away from Westside Elementary School, a drug free zone.
Westside Elementary was on lock down Wednesday morning as investigators apprehended the suspects.
KSFY News spoke with a couple individuals who feel the drug abuse is rising in their area.
"Meth use continues to grow here," Tommy Tease, a morning radio personality said. "The drug use is starting to become real rampant."
"It is an issue I have spoken about with to others," One woman said. "We see this happening and we need to get the drug abuse away from our kids and out of Sisseton."
A class four felony is punishable by up to ten years in prison and carries a $20,000 fine.
