Sioux Falls Up & Coming participating in National Day of Service

Posted: Updated:

Saturday members of Sioux Falls Up & Coming are answering President Barack Obama's call to action and participating in the National Day of Service. This is the kick-off to the 57th Presidential Inauguration which is on Monday. Members will be collecting feminine product donations for The Banquet, joining hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in volunteer service. The tradition started four years ago when the first family wanted to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. SFU&C's beneficiary was inspired by the story of alumni member and community advocate, Katrina Lehr-McKinney, who saw a woman come into The Banquet with her husband and baby. That particular day, The Banquet staff was giving out the limited number of feminine products they had on hand, and the woman was in desperate need, as she was wearing their baby's last diaper to get by. Feminine products are a specific need, and something SFU&C would like to bring to the attention of the public by way of this service drive.

SFU&C member businesses will be accepting maxi pad and tampon donations during regular business hours at the following locations leading up to the January 19 Day of Service:

City of Sioux Falls Health Department - 521 N Main Avenue, Ste. 100 Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. - 230 S Phillips Avenue, Ste. 102 Fresh Produce - 400 N Main Avenue, Ste. 100 L. Dezign - 400 N Main Avenue, Ste. 104 (SE Corner of the Gourley Building, First Floor)
