Aberdeen teenager sentenced for school crash

Posted: Updated:

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - An Aberdeen teenager who crashed his vehicle into an elementary school a year ago has been ordered to spend more than three months in jail and make restitution.

Andrew Randall, 18, pleaded guilty to vehicular battery in a plea agreement with prosecutors. The charge will not go on his record if he completes his sentence and four years of probation.

Authorities say Randall was driving a vehicle that crashed into the school the night of Jan. 17, 2012, seriously injuring himself and a passenger and causing about $30,000 in damage to the school's library. He admitted drinking alcohol and speeding before the crash.

Randall was 17 years old at the time but his case was transferred to adult court.
