It has been about two weeks since 50 year old Cresencio "Chris" Conde-Vargas was found dead in his home and Saturday, a local group wanted to bring some peace to that very same place.
Sioux Falls police found the body of Conde-Vargas on December 7th after co-workers reported that he didn't show up to work.
Police said it could have happened days before and alcohol was a factor.
Robert Bass, 22, is facing charges in the beating death of Conde-Vargas.
One group hopes to bring some peace to the home of where the father of five was murdered in an event they call take back the site.
The group Pax Christi calls it take back the site because they wants to restore peace to the home where Cresencio Conde-Vargas was killed.
The Conde family says the 50-year-old victim had lived apart from them for the past year.
His alcohol usage became a problem but they loved him and prayed for him every day.
And that's also what Pax Christi came here for on Saturday, to pray.
Bass was arrested for allegedly beating Conde-Vargas with a baseball bat.
Police believe the two were drinking at Conde-Vargas's home when an altercation broke out between them.
Pax Christi member Jean Bhatti said the vigil not only serves as a reminder of a life lost but also to create memories of peace for his loved ones and neighbors, rather than pain at the site of his violent death.
"A human life has been lost, a precious human life. we want to mark that time as well as reclaim the site from violence back to non-violence," Bhatti said.
Bhatti hopes the prayer vigil brings peace to his wife, five children, and grandchildren as well as his friends and neighbors.
The goal for Pax Christi is for the people who pass by his house will remember Conde-Vargas was loved and not the violent way he was killed.
