INDIANAPOLIS - Augustana climbed four spots to claim the No. 8 spot in the latest USA Today Sports Coaches' Poll released by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon. This is the fourth appearance in the top 10 for Augustana.
The Vikings, who own a 14-2 overall record and a 10-2 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference earned 560 points and benefitted from four higher-ranked teams losing last week.
A shakeup in the top five occurred after two teams suffered losses. Ashland (Ohio) remains the unanimous No. 1 team and Bentley (Mass.) holds onto their second-place ranking. Clayton State moves up one spot after defeating former fourth-ranked South Carolina-Aiken. Colorado Mesa takes over the No. 4 ranking and Western Washington rounds out the top five.
Both NSIC teams, Wayne State and Minnesota State, dropped out of the rankings after posting 1-2 records last week.
Augustana returns to the road this weekend at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and Minnesota State on Saturday. Both the Golden Bears and Mavericks were receiving votes in the latest poll.
