SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Xcel Energy officials say they have completed repairs to an underground electricity system in downtown Sioux Falls and power has been restored to all customers.
Officials say a handful of customers who were still without power were back online at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The power outage early Friday morning blew off manhole covers and caused a sidewalk to buckle. More than 500 customers, mostly businesses, were initially affected, but crews restored power to 300 buildings in about an hour.
All but about a dozen customers had power by Saturday afternoon.
Xcel Energy spokeswoman Laura McCarten says it was an unusual outage because of the extent of damage to the system. She says crews replaced thousands of feet of destroyed electrical cable and other pieces of equipment.
