Early commuters in Sioux Falls should consider an alternate route if they travel Interstate 229 Friday morning.
From approximately 4:45 am to 5:00 am, The South Dakota Department of Transportation is closing the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 229 at Exit 2.
Highway Patrol is setting up barricades to stop and hold traffic east and west of Exit 2. The closure is so Xcel Energy can remove two power lines for the City of Sioux Falls Yankton Trail Sewer project.
Traffic will temporarily be stopped on I-229 while the work is under way.
For more information, please contact the South Dakota Department of Transportation at 605-367-5680.
The closure was originally scheduled for Tuesday. However, the date was changed due to anticipated freezing rain & snow on Monday and possibly into Tuesday morning.
