Sioux Falls mom arrested for sending kids into cold over toy argument
A Sioux Falls mom was arrested for multiple counts of abuse, after sending five children into the cold for fighting about toys.
A woman was staying with her son and his girlfriend--Kiyanne Arpan, 33, who was arrested early Sunday morning.
The woman said her son and Arpan were drinking when Arpan became upset because the children were arguing about toys.
There were a total of six children in the home, four of the children were Arpan's and the other two were a nephew and neighbor child. Arpan kicked out five of the children-- her three boys, ages 4, 9 and 11, and the nephew and neighbor boy. Arpan's 10-year-old daughter was allowed to stay.
The boyfriend's mother tried to intervene on the boys' behalf, but Arpan allegedly pushed her to the ground. Police said the boyfriend then punched his mother.
The children went with the boyfriend's mother who eventually called police. Police said when they arrived to the home the smell of urine was pervasive, the place was filled with garbage and there were alcohol containers everywhere.
Arpan is charged with two counts of abuse or cruelty of minor under the age of 7, four counts of abuse or cruelty of a minor over the age of 7 and simple assault.
Arpan's 24-year-old boyfriend was not home when police arrived.
