New credit card fees

Posted: Updated:

A swipe of your credit card could cost you even more.

Retailers can now charge you an addition fee - up to four percent of your total purchase.

"I use my credit card often, and so I was really disappointed to hear that," said shopper Jean Bubak.

For downtown Sioux Falls retailers this news isn't good for business.

"I do not believe in charging customers more to use their credit cards or debit cards. No," said an adamant Lori Jensen, owner of Go Casual.

"I personally feel it would be detrimental to my business if I were to add an additional percentage to people's bills," said Shelby Nelson, owner of Holsen Hus.

Those answers make Bubak a satisfied customer.

"I think it's fabulous, and if we have people like that in Sioux Falls I'll continue to shop here and support the businesses."

Right now Visa and Master card have enforced the additional surcharge, which most businesses will likely incur.

"It would be great if our customers went and got cash and shopped with cash, but it's just not the way things are today," said Jensen. Everyone grabs their plastic out their purse. It's just so much more convenient."

And, that's why Go Casual and the Holsen Hus will accept credit cards with a smile.
