It may be the end of January, but the first Severe Thunderstorm Warnings of the year have been issued in Iowa.
Stormy weather moved into Des Moines and Ames around 9PM on Monday night. Torrential rains were reported in West Des Moines and Ames. Those rains were accompanied by lightning and thunder in a situation that caught many by surprise.
Quarter-inch sized hail was reported near Manchester in eastern Iowa.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for four counties in northeast Iowa as the line of storms moved from the southwest part of the state into the northeast.
No injuries or severe damage have been reported.
