Aberdeen copes with more snowy roads

Posted: Updated:

Spring time is just around the corner, but Mother Nature decided Aberdeen could use a bit more snow.

"We need the moisture, for sure." Lynn Lander, Aberdeen City Manager said. "But, snow causes some stress on drivers."

The Hub-City got hit with roughly eight inches of snow Monday night and Tuesday morning.

"We are working on getting it all plowed," Lander said. "It takes time, but by Tuesday night all the streets should be clear."

After a predominantly dry winter last year, Aberdeen is getting close to their average of nearly 40 inches of snow this time around.

The snow stopped falling around two in the morning on Tuesday, which meant residential areas were to be plowed before downtown streets.

"The timing of the snow dictates the plow schedule," Lander mentioned. "We obviously get those emergency routes first, but then we plan our routes for what gets cleared next."

The city has issued a plowing schedule and encourages residents to sign up for the traffic and snow plowing alerts through their web site.
