Construction begins at Empire Mall

It brings more tourists to its doors than Mount Rushmore, so it's time our state's biggest attraction gets a makeover.

The Empire Mall in Sioux Falls opened in 1975. It's last remodel was in 2000. For the next ten months, it will undergo a facelift that will bring it into the 21st century.

"I think it's a real testament to what's going on in Sioux Falls right now. Our town is pumping and exploding and the folks at Simon Properties they realize it," said Mayor Mike Huether. "There's a great opportunity here in Sioux Falls, and they wanted to be part of it and capture it."

Mayor Huether also thinks the odds are good that the Empire Mall will land another large anchor tenant.
