Minn. shooting victim's son pushes for change

Posted: Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) - Sami Rahamim should be coasting to the finish of his senior year at a suburban Minneapolis high school. Instead, the 17-year-old is filling an unlikely role as a lobbyist on gun issues - one that has put him alongside prominent figures such as President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Rahamim lost his father, Reuven, in September when an ex-worker fired from the family business shot and killed six people in a rampage.

Other activists and politicians say Rahamim quickly learned how to be effective. He has been at the Minnesota Capitol nearly every day for a month, missing school to push for legislation to boost background checks and tighten gun regulations.

Rahamim says he wants to make a "real positive difference" in cutting gun violence.
