Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is a hard worker....she currently has a 3.96 grade point average.
Her name is Lynn Ymker and she is a senior at Armour High School.
And after spending some time with her, we found that she has a very specific plan that will hopefully involve giving something back to her hometown.
Lynn Ymker doesn't have a lot of extra time in her day....because she is spending a lot of her time on a varied course load at Armour High School. "English 4, Government, Senior Math, Physics...." And don't forget Psychology and Sociology. And the reason she is taking a heavy class load like this is to prepare her for college and beyond...where her study time will really be put to the test. "I plan on going to SDSU for microbiology and a biology double major and then hopefully after that I will go to med school to be a general practitioner."
Lynn's work in school...her dedication to her studies....is something that can't be overlooked and it is not. Mary Schneider is Lynn's English teacher. "She's a leader ever since she's been a freshman she's been on top of it. she's cooperative, she leads the rest of the class, she's sympathetic and empathetic to the rest of the kids..... "
It is that sense of empathy that makes Lynn well liked among her classmates. She is never afraid or unwilling to help. And Lynn says when she is done with medical school....she wants to come back home...and help her friends and neighbors. "I'd like to come back to Armour or around the area and be a doctor but just pretty much any small town would be nice."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Lynn will receive a $100 scholarship from Douglas Electric Cooperative...which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
