It's a startling statistic.
The number of people in the U-S with Alzheimer's Disease will almost triple by 2050.
That's the latest projection, according to a study in the journal "Neurology".
Researchers studied records of nearly 11,000 patients sixty-five and older who were examined every three years and screened for dementia.
The researchers project that -- by the year 2050 -- more than 13.8 million Americans will have Alzheimer's.
The authors warn the rising tide of Alzheimer's will be a huge burden -- not just for patients and their families -- but for the U-S health system.
