Sioux City schools are already employing security
Measures, like doors that are locked at all times. But is that enough?
The school board is now debating whether bulletproof glass would be a smart addition to its new schools.
Sioux City superintendent Paul Gausman acknowledges the safety benefits, but says the price tag may be daunting.
Siouxland Safety Services is a company that assesses the security in area schools. We asked its vice-president Aaron Iacino whether bulletproof glass is the best option for increased school safety- "No, I think school resource officer would be more much well spent. Because they're not just good for active shooters and things like that but they help curve a lot of kids from going down bad paths."
There are currently six on-duty police officers for Sioux City's 23 schools. Superintendent Gausman says he's open to adding more.
