He's got a sparkle in his eye again. At least that's what Cesar Zakahi's sister says.
"(It's) kind of overwhelming. I'm a simple person, an ordinary guy that just struck a nerve," he said.
Zakahi says he was let go from his position as a custodian for the Stanley County School District this week. He says it was for posting a picture of a crumpled American flag, left by a former co-worker, on his Facebook account.
He never expected the sort of reaction he would receive, calls and Facebook posts from all over the world.
"I had no clue it would go like this. That it would go viral," Zakahi said.
He says kids in the Stanley County School District don't practice taking the flag down and folding it. He adds that too many people don't respect the stars and stripes as they should. But, that doesn't mean he would change how this week's events unfolded.
He says a friend asked him, "If you had a magic wand and you could make this all go away, what would you do? Would you do this again? I said I'd do it again in a heartbeat whether I got fired or not."
