PIERRE, SD - Due to blizzard conditions forecast for much of South Dakota from later today (Saturday) and continuing through Monday morning, leaders of the South Dakota Legislature have decided not to hold meetings of the 2013 Legislative Session on Monday, Feb. 11.
The legislative day not being held on Monday will be made up on Friday, Feb.15, which had been scheduled to be an off day.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a major winter storm across much of the state during the weekend. A combination of as much as six to 12 inches of falling snow and strong winds will produce blizzard conditions and very poor visibility in many areas. South Dakotans are urged to monitor weather updates. Officials have asked citizens to avoid travel from late Saturday until the storm passes on Monday.
