Lego League championships held at Elmen Center in Sioux Falls
Hundreds of middle school students in Sioux Falls today all with one thing in common, a love for legos. It was the 4th annual state championship First Lego League competition held at the Elmen Center on the Augustana College Campus.
Around 350 students from 42 different teams across the state competed they built, designed and programmed robots to accomplish different missions.
One participant, says he loves First Lego League and loves to compete.
"We have to work as a team to get most of it done. That was the most hard part but it was really fun," Chase Helland said. "Our strategy was to work as a team and have fun".
Organizer and president of the state's league, Robyn Swets picked up the program where her husband left off. Dr. Dan Swets was one of four men who died in a plane crash in December of 2011 on the way to a Lego League meeting in Rapid City. Swets was also an Associate Professor at Augustana College.
All three of these men jump started the program for young people in South Dakota.
