Sioux Falls burglar caught in the act, arrested down the road

Posted: Updated:

A Sioux Falls man was arrested for burglary over the weekend, after he was caught in the victim's home.

Saturday afternoon, a man arrived at home and noticed the backdoor to his home was open. As he walked into his home he saw someone coming out of the bedroom with his backpack.

The man told the burglar to drop the bag and leave and the suspect did so.

At 3:37 pm Saturday, a check well-being call had been made regarding someone on a bicycle riding on the interstate. Police caught up with that person at 57th Street and Minnesota.

The responding officer recognized that the man on the bicycle matched the suspect in the burglary. The burglary victim was contacted and met up with police to identify the burglar.

Jason Munch, 39, of Sioux Falls was arrested for 2nd Degree Burglary. He is also facing marijuana and paraphernalia charges because police found a pot pipe on him.

Police say the burglary appeared to be random as there was no connection between the suspect and the victim.
