Redfield man dies in weekend blizzard

A man from rural Redfield died after abandoning his vehicle Sunday during blizzard conditions.

Spink County Sheriff Kevin Schurch said Kevin Cranston, 58, was found on Monday morning after the search. Cranston was reported missing at 8:30 pm Sunday, after he did not return from work.

Sheriff Schurch said a search party combed the area during the blizzard and Cranston's car was found shortly after midnight. At 5:58pm, the search party found Cranston about half a mile away from his car.

Several people and agencies participated in the search including: the Spink County highway department, fire departments of Redfield and rural Redfield, Michael Rogers of SnoBear of South Dakota, members of the Jim Valley Snowmobile Club, Spink County Ambulance and citizens Paul Lemmer and Tom Carr.

Cranston's funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Thursday at Thelen Funeral Home, 101 E. Seventh Ave., in Redfield.
