In the wrestling world, the Pierre Governors have been at the top of Class A for the last two years. Coach Ryan Noyes recipe for their recent success, is quite simple.
"The big thing right now is taking it one tournament at a time, one tournament at a time and being able to win matches and so far we have been able to do that." Coach Noyes said.
Pierre returned a nucleus of their 2012 state title team, the first they had won since 1974. Led defending state champion Caleb Stoltenburg, the Governors look to grapple their way to their second state title in a row.
"It would be nice to do two years in a row. We know it will be hard but we will see how it pans out," Stoltenburg said.
"It'd be nice to repeat again, you know the first one in 30-40 years was nice, but to go back to back would be really good," stated senior Lane Lettau.
With an undefeated ESD record this season, the Govs are looking tough again this year, but coach Noyes says staying healthy could be the determining factor this year.
"We need to stay healthy, i think they will be fine they just need to keep practicing hard and preparing themselves each week and if they do that and stay healthy, I think we'll have a shot." said Noyes.
But they expect a serious challenge from Rapid City Central, who beat the govs in the Brookings Invitational earlier this year. Patrick Hills KSFY Sports>>
