Committee to look at pros and cons of Medicaid Expansion in South Dakota
Some of South Dakota's Republican and Democratic legislators are making a bipartisan effort to learn more about Medicaid expansion in the state.
Formation of the exploratory committee follows two public presentations on the Medicaid expansion from spokespeople for Governor Dennis Daugaard's office and Medicaid expert Vern Smith with the nonpartisan Council of State Governments.
House Minority Leader Bernie Hunhoff sent out a news release Wednesday. It stated shows that nine senators and ten representatives will part of a committee learning about the pros and cons of Medicaid expansion in South Dakota.
Members of the Bipartisan Medicaid Expansion Exploratory Committee plan to ask fellow lawmakers to create a special hearing of the House and Senate Health & Human Services Committees to take public testimony on the Medicaid expansion.
Legislators need the right information from all the various stakeholders before making a decision, according to Hunhoff's news release.
