Tourism Secretary invites Obama to visit South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The secretary of South Dakota's Department of Tourism is hoping President Obama will make a stop in the Mount Rushmore State during his new presidential term.

Tourism Secretary James Hagen says South Dakota is one of only a handful of states Obama did not visit during his first term. Hagen wrote a letter to Obama a few weeks ago inviting the president to visit South Dakota sometime during his current term.

Hagen listed the many sites and events in the state for Obama to see, including Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, the Corn Palace and the Ingalls Homestead in De Smet.

Hagen says he has yet to hear back from Obama.

Michelle Obama and the Obama daughters visited Mount Rushmore National Memorial last year.
