Scotland man sentenced to life for killing 4-month-old son
A Scotland, SD man has been sentenced to life in prison for kill his 4-month-old son.
The charges stemmed from a 911 call from the residence of Chris Miller, 39, in Scotland on March 3, 2011. The call said that 4-month-old Jacob Miller was not breathing. Hospital staff notified law enforcement that Jacob was diagnosed with a severe skull fracture and bleeding on the brain. Miller was convicted by a Turner County jury on January 30, 2013.
Miller was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence, according to a news release from Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Miller was sentenced to fifty years for aggravated assault and 10 years for probation violation with all sentences ordered to run consecutively.
Miller admitted to a portion of the Part II Information for Habitual Offender, which elevated the aggravated assault from a class 2 felony to a class 1 felony.
