14 percent of children in South Dakota are considered obese, which is more than double what it was 30 years ago.
One local event looked to bring those numbers down.
The 11th annual Family Fun Festival was held Saturday afternoon at the Sioux Falls Coliseum.
It is a fundraiser for Health Connect of South Dakota.
The hands-on event included free activities like teeth fluoride varnishing, spinal checks, learning about proper hand-washing, recycling and getting families active and excited to be healthy.
"It's not as intimidating as a doctor's office so they can come in and get screenings, be comfortable with people checking them," Nickole Wilson said.
Wilson said the kid-oriented activities helped her start good habits early with her kids.
The event ended at 3pm.
